About Us

We have a love for great-tasting food and
drinks, and we constantly search for better ways to prepare said food and
drinks for our own enjoyment.  This is how we discovered home roasted
coffee beans and how fresh and delicious they can make your coffee taste.

We then began roasting coffee in the simplest way, in a
whirly-pop popcorn maker.  After experiencing the inadequacies of that
method, we graduated to a home-built drum roaster that we used on our BBQ
grill.

This is where we honed the craft of roasting
coffee beans, learning the smells, the sights, how profiles work, etc.  We
roasted some fantastic tasting coffee this way and really developed our love
for roasting.

The more we learned though, the more we discovered
this roasting method presented challenges as well.  We then picked out a
commercial roaster and began roasting larger batches of coffee beans.
There was a bit of a learning curve again, but our experience roasting using
the simple methods really helped us to dial our profiles in on the
larger roaster.

This also meant we had way more beans than we could
consume ourselves, so we started sharing with our friends and neighbors.
They seemed to love the small batch fresh roasted beans better than the
store-bought beans they were using before and began asking for more.

This is how Sun Dog Roastery came about.

Our pursuit of a great cup of coffee has led us to
the point of now being able to share our roastings with our friends, neighbors,
and fellow coffee enthusiasts because friends don’t let friends drink bad
coffee.
